At the M Affect, we offer a specialized treatment known as areola tattooing. This procedure aids in the reconstruction and beautification of the areola, giving them a more natural appearance. Whether you've undergone a medical procedure or are just looking to enhance the appearance of your areolas, our experts are here to guide you every step of the way.
While the treatment process is meticulous and professional, knowing the aftercare is essential for best results. Here's what you need to know:
- Post-Procedure Sensation: It's common to feel a slight discomfort similar to a "rug burn" after the treatment. However, if your breast has been reconstructed and there's minimal sensation, you'll experience negligible tenderness.
- Drying and Tightening: As your areola starts healing, it may feel dry and tight. Ensure you keep the tattooed area moist and protected for at least a week. This not only safeguards the pigment but also prevents any body fluids from staining your clothes.
- Dress Comfortably: If you're sensitive post-procedure, wear loose clothing. Sports bras or regular bras can be handy to hold bandages in place. Nonstick pads and paper tape can also be used over the tattoo to reduce sensitivity.
- Cleaning Ritual: Clean the area softly using antibacterial soap. Avoid using abrasive cloth. Instead, let the water flow over it during showers. On the following day, avoid directly soaping or soaking the pigmented area.
Essential Touch-ups:
- Always keep the tattooed area clean and dry.
- Apply a yellow soft paraffin/bepanthen ointment to comfort the nipple and areola region. Using gauzes in your bra can further soothe the area.
- Refrain from sleeping on your stomach.
- For preventing infections, it's crucial not to touch the pigmented area with bare fingers until fully healed.
- Flaking & Itching: Over the first couple of weeks, the tattoo might flake. This is entirely normal. Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor to keep it moist. Although you might feel itchy, resist scratching, as it can lead to wounds reopening and potential infections.
- Swimming & Sun Exposure: Stay away from swimming pools, oceans, and sunbathing for 2-3 weeks or until the area is fully healed.
- Color Changes: Right after the procedure, your areolas may seem darker. However, as they heal, they'll lighten. If any redness persists around the tattooed area after 48 hours, please contact us, as an antibiotic cream might be necessary.
- Healing Timeline: Typically, complete healing occurs within a week, but the area might take several more weeks to display its final appearance. While there might be slight lightening, the stunning results are designed to last a lifetime.
